Basics of hydroponics. in order to get hydroponic basins in rimworld, you first need to research hydroponics at the research bench. you will also need sun lamps which can be built after researching electricity. hydroponic basins and sun lamps are a great combination because it allows you to use these basins indoors.. Any hydroponics basin placed in this grid must cover exactly one red, one yellow, one blue, and one green square. (convince yourself that this is true; it's not hard.) however, there are 24 red and blue squares, and 26 yellow and green squares..
Hydroponic is intended to use on maps with severe climate (usually lacking any soil), or when you're building mountain base. of course you don't need it at all on any map with moderate climate. i always make it a priority to build at least one hydroponics chamber in my base, as a simple insurance measure against a prolonged toxic fallout event. Not higher yields, actually. it'll only return more than a baseline farm plot because it can grow during the night, but plants need rest time from growing as well, so it's not as speedy as you'd think, especially compared to the high growth rate multiplier from hydroponics that your setup doesn't deal with (trying to minimize area with maximal return because i'm out in the middle of a marshy. Corn, devilstrand mushrooms, and haygrass will not grow in a hydroponic basin. the devices necessary for indoor farming require electricity, and thus are susceptible to brownouts. though most rimworld players seem to agree that the hydroponic farms are better (once you can afford them), it is actually best to have a mixture of both indoor and outdoor farming ..
